The traditional Edgewood area is 15 square miles. It is 20 miles East of Albuquerque on Interstate 40. Such a large area has been broken up into Edgewood, Northeast Edgewood and Southwest Edgewood. This area, the town of Edgewood is in the Torrance County, only 51 miles south of the City of Santa Fe.
Southwest Edgewood is one of the few cool areas in this desert region provided by it's location on the Eastern side of the Sandia Mountains. Interstate 40 cuts directly through town and is easily accessible from the North and the South.
The city of Northeast and Southwast Edgewood is committed to constantly improve the quality of life for residents through thoughtful planning and development in the community parks and recreational areas. Throughout the summer months, this community provides activities for children and teens in the areas of sports, arts, sciences and more. Fun excursions are on the agenda for the teens. The city also boasts an Aquatic and Recreation Center that offers swimming, art areas, athletic fields, a skate park, picnic areas, a hillside amphitheater, and a teen center. An active senior citizen center is also a centerpiece for life in this small community.
Recently there has been two major supermarkets have opened their doors in the last three years as well as a second major automobile dealership.
This region is also home to many old tales that still get spun to this day. To name a few: Billy the Kid was a kid for a spell in Silver City; the 13th century Mogollón Indians carved cliff side dwellings into the rock of the Gila Mountains (now called Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument); those same mountains later claimed the lives of many legendary frontier men and in 1924 were designated as the first wilderness area in the country; La Mesilla is where Confederate soldiers raised a flag calling it the capital of both New Mexico and Arizona; more gold mining towns than you can count went boom and bust here. All this history is contained is Southwest Edgewood as well as many lakes nearby.
