 Northeast Edgewood

Founded in the early 1930's, Northeast Edgewood was the homestead of a number of families that still maintain deep roots in the community.  The traditional Edgewood area is 15 square miles, only 20 miles East of Albuquerque on Interstate 40.  The town is located in the Southwestern corner of the County of Santa Fe. Edgewood is on the Eastern side of the Sandia Mountains, protected from the desert heat.

Interstate 40 cuts directly through town and is easily accessible from the North and the South, which is particularly attractive to businesses.

The city of Northeast and Southwast Edgewood is committed to constantly improve the quality of life for residents through thoughtful planning and development in the community parks and recreational areas. Throughout the summer months, this community provides activities for children and teens in the areas of sports, arts, sciences and more. Fun excursions are on the agenda for the teens. The city also boasts an Aquatic and Recreation Center that offers swimming, art areas, athletic fields, a skate park, picnic areas, a hillside amphitheater, and a teen center. An active senior citizen center is also a centerpiece for life in this small community.

It's the eastern slopes of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains that turn into rolling plains here, giving this region its dramatic landscape. In its wake the range has created a host of lake oases. Catch pike, bass, catfish, and trout at any number of the 9 lakes in the area.  Other than fishing, many enjoy waterskiing, canoe or sail in these desert bodies of fresh water. For Scuba divers there's the Blue Hole in Santa Rose, an 81-foot-deep clear pool that's a lovely 63-degree temperature year-round. It's hard to imagine that droughts once forced the Anasazi Indians to abandon the area for points south and west, where they established multistoried settlements like the now-abandoned Pecos Pueblo (now the Pecos National Historic Park). Other must-sees include the St. James Hotel (Billy the Kid and all of the other gunslingers and outlaws who caroused it are gone, but it's still a great place for a respite). Also there is the Kit Carson Museum, which gives a good portrayal of 1850s settlement life.  Northeast Edgewood has large lot sizes and "country" feel with single family homes in every style and price range.
