On Nov 25, 2009, I lost my sister Kathi,  after years of fighting melanoma cancer. She fought long and hard and somehow I always believed she would pull through. Unfortunately that was not to be. Kathi and I wanted to do the breast cancer walk in 2009 but her health would not let her, so I have decided to do the walk in her memory.

I know that Kathi would tell me to keep fighting. That is why, on June 26 and 27, I will spend the weekend walking, along with thousands of other people, in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Breckenridge Colorado. I will walk the distance of a marathon and a half (that's nearly 40 miles!). I'm committed to spending the next few months training and raising funds for the Avon foundation Breast Cancer Crusade.

to further honor this extraordinary woman, I've committed to rasing at least $1800, but hopefully even more! I'll do this in memory of Kathi Raver and all the other people whose lives will be cut short by cancer this year.

Please help me to honor Kathi by making a tax-deductible contribution. Just visit my fundraising page at www.avonwalk.org/goto/jeanette.raver.

On behalf of Kathi Raver and too many others lost to this deadly disease, I thank you for your support.

Albuquerque, New Mexico, is on of the most beautiful cities in the Southwestern United Stated. We have many people that relocate to our city and the surrounding areas every year. Thoese people sometimes need some help in understanding many of the facts that every native of Albuquerque knows. Here is a start for those of you that are interested in learning about our beautiful city.

1. Albuquerque, founded in 1706, is one of the oldest inland cities in the U.S.

2. Our average elevation is 5,314 ft., the highest metropolitan city on the American mainland.

3. Albuquerque is the Hot Air Balloon Capital of the U.S. The city hosts the largest international hot air balloon competition in the world and draws crowds of more than 1.5 million people.

4. Albuquerque is more than 162 sq miles and home to around 550,000 people. It's the 38th largest city in the U.S. in terms of population.

5. The sun shines an average of 310 days a year. Year-round average temperatures range from 42 to 77.

6.Albuquerque enjoys 4 definite seasons, none of which are extreme.

7. Due to our high desert elevation, the days will be warm nd the evenings cool in the spring and summer, It is not uncommon for the temperature variation from day to night to be 40 F.

8. Our high elevation allows us to enjoy glorious, star-filled night skies!

9. Albuquerque is graced with some of the most sensational sunsets and sunrises in the world. some say that our sunrises rival the best sunsets of most cities...our sunsets are even more tremendous.

10. Sandia Peak Tramway stretches 2.7 miles along the Sandia mountains. It is the longest single span tram in the world.

11. Sandia Crest offers a panoramic view of more than 11,000 sq. miles. That's an unobstructed view of 60 miles in all directions.

13. Nine national monuments are located within a day's drive of Albuquerque.

14. The most important question that many of us need to answer each day is "Red or Green?" This refers to our love of red and green chile. The Rio Grande Valley is the only location in the world that Green chile is grown. This is truly the flavor of the Southwest. With the Hatch Chile Festival on Labor Day weekend and the New Mexico Wine and Chile Festival on Memorial Weekend, there are plenty of opportunities to explore our love of this highly addictive vegetable.

First-time homebuyers (the purchaser or his/her spouse may not have owned a residence during the three years prior to purchase) can qualify for up to a maximum $8000.00 in tax credit. Existing homeowner (who have owned their current home for at least five consecutive years within the last eight) can qualify for up to $6500.00 in tax credit.

The good news is that allowable income limits, a road block for many Americans in prior offerings, have increased over previous tax credit programs. The Extended Tax Credit program caps income at $125,000. ( in order to receive the maximum tax credit) and $225,000 per year for couples, the latter up $75,000. over the previous program.

It's interesting to note that home buyers whose income exceeds these limits may still be eligible for a portion of the credit. Termed a "credit phase out," the credit decreases for  buyers who earn between $125,000. and $145,000 fro single buyers filing jointly. The amount of the tax credit decreases as the income approaches the maximum limit. However, homebuyers that exceed $145,000 for singles and $245,000 filing jointly are not eligible for the credit. as always, your best bet is to consult your tax professional regarding your individual situation.

The legislation limits eligibility for primary residences (not second homes or investment properties) prices at $800,000 or less. Primary residences include single family homes, condos, townhouse, and co-ops.
